Another great event is in the books!!
Thank you to all who supported us at the Roaring 20's Annual Benefit on March 5th!
You can see pictures from the event on our Flickr page by clicking here!
At the event, our guests exceeded our goal of providing help and hope to three of our BB4K kids!! Read below to learn more about those kids and their, now met, needs!
Seven year old Aaron is a very confident little guy who can conquer anything! He loves to play ball, mess around with their farm animals, hunt and fish. He also likes to leave worms in his jeans pockets for his mom to find later!
When Aaron was 5 years old and was attending pre-kindergarten, he failed the school’s hearing test. It was later learned that he was born deaf in his right ear.
After a bit of Aaron exhausting himself at school from concentrating so hard to hear, his parents decided to try a loaner hearing aid to see if it made much of a difference. There was immediate relief for Aaron and success to follow.
Aaron now needs his own hearing aid as he must turn the loaner one in soon.
Thanks to our donors, Aaron has made his appointment and will get his hearing aid soon!!
Five year old Blake has the best personality! She is sweet, witty, positive, and fun. She is also quite smart. Blake enjoys ballet, horseback riding (hippo therapy) and water therapy. She loves playing with her sisters, Finley and Holland. Blake likes to play with animals, draw, read, and be around people.
Blake was diagnosed at age 1 with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type II. She is unable to walk, crawl or sit on her own and she has limited strength and energy. SMA is a progressive disorder and has lead to other challenges including osteoporosis, GI issues, pulmonology issues, and scoliosis. SMA does not, however, affect her mentally or emotionally.
Blake loves to ride an adaptive bike when she goes to physical therapy and she has been wanting one for years so she can play outside with her older sister. With all of the other medical costs associated with Blake’s ongoing care, her parents cannot afford this piece of equipment.
Blake's bike has been ordered and she will be surprised with it soon!!
Eleven year old Luke loves being outdoors and especially likes to swim. He enjoys going to Kings Island, Coney Island and LaRosa’s Pizza. He has younger twin siblings that he likes riding bikes with as well as creeking and sitting around the campfire. Luke has a love of animals and tries to help even the tiniest of creatures.
Luke was born at 27 weeks gestation and spent 2 months in the NICU. He has been in speech therapy since he was 18 months old. He was diagnosed with ADHD and Sensory Processing Disorder at the age of 4 years. He currently receives weekly occupational therapy to address sensory needs and sensory regulation.
He desperately wants to make friends but struggles to do so in a socially acceptable way due to his underlying conditions. Camp Odakota is a camp specially designed for children with sensory processing and other related disorders. Luke did really well in this camp last year and this is the last year he will be able to go due to his age.
Luke will be enjoying camp this summer thanks to the overwhelming generosity of our guests at the annual event!
