Donate a Vehicle

Now there's a new way to offer your support to Building Blocks for Kids — by donating your unwanted car, truck, boat or recreational vehicle to BB4K.

You may complete the online donation form or call the donation line at 1-866-628-2277 to donate your vehicle. When the information is complete, it is forwarded to the tow company and they will call you directly to schedule the pick up.

What can I donate?

BB4K accepts any vehicles including cars, trucks, motorcycles…even boats!  Your vehicle will be sold at auction and the proceeds come back to BB4K.

What do I have to do?
Call 1-866-628-2277 and our operators will walk you through the process in a few minutes. Three things are needed. (1) A clear title, which means a title with your name listed in the owner's section, without an assignment or transfer to another person.  All liens must be released prior to donating the vehicle. (2) Your car keys. (3) When you call or fill out our online form, please have the title and current mileage in hand.  Also, the title must be in your name and will need to be signed (our operators will give you specific instructions about where to put your signature on the title.)

Will you pick up the car?
Yes! We want this process to be as easy as possible.  A representative from a local towing company will call you to make pick-up arrangements.  The driver will take your keys and the signed title and he/she will give you a towing receipt showing that your vehicle was collected by Vehicles for Charity for BB4K.  There is no charge for the towing and your vehicle will be picked up in 2 - 4 days.

Is my car donation tax deductible?
Yes.  Building Blocks for Kids (BB4K), is a 501(C)(3) non-profit.  Please check with your tax consultant for instructions on how to list your donation as a charitable deduction.

How do I determine the value of the car?
As of January 1, 2005, the IRS changed the guidelines for vehicle donations.  If the claimed value of the donated motor vehicle exceeds $500 and the item is sold by the charitable organization, the taxpayer is limited to the gross proceeds from the sale.  Vehicles for Charity, which administers BB4K's donation program, will notify you of the amount when your vehicle is sold.  Please consult your tax advisor for more information.

Please be aware that if your donation is valued at more than $500, you'll be required to complete IRS Form 8283 for Non-cash Charitable Contributions.  If the donation is valued at more than $5,000, you need to have it appraised before making the donation. BB4K is not permitted to assign a value to your donation. You will, however, receive an acknowledgement of the donation including specific information about the vehicle.

How do I claim my tax deduction?
You should include the sale proceeds of your vehicle, as provided to you by Vehicles for Charity, as an itemized deduction on your tax return for the year in which you make the donation.
